Ethiopia has successfully finalized planting of the billion tree seedlings targeted for the year 2020 rainy season.
This second green legacy campaign has been launched on June 5, 2020 by His Excellency Prime Minister Abiy Ahimed and it has been finalized one month ahead of the rainy season.
The prime minister announced the finalization while taking part in the closing session of the planting campaign that took place at Mount Bezawit, Bahirdar city.
On the occasion, the premier has also expressed his appreciation to the citizenries for actively participating in the process.
It is recalled that a record number of nearly 354 million trees were planted in a single day on what the Government named Green Legacy Day, 29 July 2019, although the Government’s plan had been to plant 200 million trees.
Meanwhile, Ethiopia announces to plant 6 Billion tree seedlings in 2021 rainy season.
According to the green legacy initiative objective, five billion tree seedlings will be planted across the country to help curb the effects of climate change and deforestation, with an ambitious target of planting 20 billion trees over the next four years.
